I did not contact any of my elected officials until a year ago. That's almost embarrassing to share, since I'm now a grandmother and the chair of our League of Women Voters Leadership Team.
Even though I've been around the block a few times, the first time I called to talk to my Senator or Representative, I was nervous. I said what I needed to say and quickly hung up. Whew, I was glad that was over. I got better with practice, but I still remember that first time. For me and I suspect many others, some ways we can participate in our democracy can indeed feel a bit mysterious at first.
That's why I love this video produced by the League of Women Voters of Metro Columbus. Check it out and share it with the young and young-at-heart people in your life.
