Shiner Steps Up for Civil Conversation
Civil conversation and information is key to a progressive community and a capacity crowd at last week’s Candidate Forum in Shiner exemplified that notion. All nine candidates running for Shiner ISD trustee and Shiner City Council were able to personally engage with their constituents. The age of the crowd ranged from teenagers to 80 year-olds and included all current city council members and the mayor, business owners, retirees, students, parents, educators and professionals.
Thank you to all for helping us make this first-ever forum such a success. Survey results from the candidates and the attendees indicate the conversational format was well received with both groups stating they would definitely participate again. We simply need to move to a bigger room to control the noise. What a great problem to resolve! The League of Women Voters of Lavaca County is committed to providing these types of events to educate voters and assist candidates with spreading the word. If you were unable to attend this time, be sure to come out to the next forum.
Good luck to all the candidates and thank you to each of them for wanting to serve their community. Please do your part and go out and vote at the Shiner Public Library. It only takes a few minutes to speak your mind through your vote as well as to honor those Shinerites who want to serve.
