ABOUT US

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan community organization of men and women which works to promote informed and active participation in government. Our Lavaca County League joins more than 30 local Leagues in Texas and 700 other local and state-level Leagues in the United States in empowering voters and defending democracy in their home communities.

OUR VISION

We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate.

We believe in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy.

We believe in respect for individuals, the value of diversity, and the empowerment of the grassroots, both within the League and in our community.

Our League - like all League of Women Voters organizations - is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government.

WHAT WE DO

We are a nonpartisan political membership organization which:

  • encourages active and informed participation in the democratic processes of government

  • provides non-partisan information on voting, elections and the election process

  • engages citizens in our community in promoting positive solutions to public policy issues through education and advocacy

  • provides opportunities for citizens in our community to get more involved, learn new skills and demonstrate leadership.

HOW WE WORK

We strive to:

  • act with trust, integrity and professionalism

  • operate in an open and effective manner to meet the needs of those we serve, both members and the public

  • take the initiative in seeking diversity in membership

  • acknowledge our heritage as we seek our path to the future.

LEARN ABOUT US

Since 1920 we have been an activist, grassroots organization whose leaders believed that voters should play a critical role in democracy.
